Website Design: Joey Duck's Profile

Go Back

Some of you might not know who Joey Duck is if you're not into Athletics, but trust us, when 2012 comes round you will certainly remember reading this. Joey Duck is a British athletics runner and runs in 60m, 100m and 200m events and sometimes competes in the 400m. At 14,  Joey Duck was ranked numero uno in Europe in her age group at 200m and number one also in the UK for the 100m. August 2003 saw success when she recorded 11.79 for the 100m, placing her at firmly 2nd on the UK all-time under-15 list. Her fantastic form that year in 2003 led to the nomination for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award where she was narrowly beaten by swimmer Kate Haywood.

Brave Creative are proud to be asked to design and develop Joey's new website to raise her profile and bring in more sponsors. Joey is looking for more sponsors to help her achieve her main goals: to represent GB at the 2012 Olympics, U23 European Championships - Ostrava - Czech Republic and at the World Championships - Daegu - South Korea.

Website Design

Our main aim when designing Joey's website was to help create as much impact as possible when the home page first loads and give a sense of running motion - hence using some great imagery of Joey with some clever sliding speed motion which takes up a third of the screen view for impact. This gives the user no option but to take in some well photographed shots of Joey in action.

The site's background contains an overall image backdrop of a track which sets the mood straight away. With the sponsor always visible, even when you scroll vertically, this ensures each of these companies are visible 100% of the time, no matter which page is being viewed or how far down you scroll down the page. Social Media Marketing is also embedded by way of a live Twitter feed, giving Joey's fans an a constant rush of her thoughts, updates and comments.

There are three main gallery sections too, one for the photo gallery, one for videos (you tube) and one for press clippings. Each is presented in an elegant and clean format giving the user minimal disruption so that can simply view, close and select the next shot - a much easier way.

Finally, the colour theme plays on an undertone of the British St.George flag, something Joey is proud of representing. Colour is key to the whole website and something we have not over complicated, making sure Joey stands out, as after all this is a website about Joey Duck.

Brave Creative would like to wish Joey all the success in her career!
