The magazine has a particular exclusive feel and read to it and is intelligently written with a huge emphasis on creativity. The Moment Magazine exudes quality in both magazine design, photography and content, and aims to deliver a thought-provoking and informed journalism in a more innovative and engaging way than many of its competitors.
Brave Creative were commission for the design and development of the launch website to ensure advertisers could get a grasp of exactly what they were being asked to be part of. Online brand guidance was provided to ensure the positioning of the product was pitched at the right level for the target audience in mind. After a full solid year of the micro site design that was initially launched for The Moment Magazine in Peterborough, we were given the all clear to develop a new unqiue website design and develop it with a flexible and powerful content management system (CMS) - we chose to use WordPress. We based the design on the already clean and concise design of the micro site, with this in mind we were able to deliver an enticing and inviting design that was not to much for the advertiser or consumer to embrace. Using plain 'ol simple Black and White and some of the colours from the original website to differentiate some of the editorial sections, this gave it a fresh & modern look and feel and also made it clearer to the user when navigating accross the wesbite. We take Usuabilty (UX Design) very seriously at Brave Creative and strive for perfection in every aspect of our work.
Each editorial section is accompanied by a jQuery 'featured slider' to showcase some of the best and most recent articles, together with this a powerful bespoke Advertising Model using Google DFP, we have the power to specify adverts in slots across the website on any page we like, enticing the user in and delivering relevant advertisements to the consumer. Content is king, and boy do The Moment Magazine have content. The editorial being the 'creme de le crem' of the website has a beautifully formatted layout, each article uses various styles for headings, lists, block quotes and images. We also have the ability to share with social media and comment on each article, really getting the user engaged within the content of the website.
The homepage is exciting with a lot of things sliding, fading etc - all of these areas are controlled by the CMS to give FULL control over what is being displayed, the same applies for the editorial sections. The homepage has a clever sliding mechanism using jQuery which you can move with your finger if you are on an iPad or iPhone! - we're just showing off now. Beneath that is a 'featured' fading area accompanied by an MPU advert. There are many other columns below this which have features that are in other sections to. These being - a dynamic twitter feed, house advertisements, article features, featured videos, an AJAX powered what's on calendar, numerous advertising slots and much more! With some heavy WordPress customisation this site was able to be born with the functionality required. Some of the functionality included is a 'Whats On' section to showcase events in Peterborough and the local surrounding areas. We also have the ability to have offers for local businesses by making the use of voucher codes or downloadable PDF vouchers which the user can take into the establishment. Another exciting feature is the competition section, anyone can enter competitions on the website that they can feel they have a chance of actually winning.
We have also made use of HTML5 powered digital magazines and publications as we have a Virtual Magazine showcasing the latest issue of the magazine that is currently available, this is particularily useful if you are on a tablet such as an iPad, where as if you are on a PC or Mac you simply get the equivalent flash version. Another interesting feature is the Videos section, we can simply copy & paste either a YouTube or Vimeo link and it will display nicely on the website and it's tablet friendly too! We can sneak preview the accompanying article by the use of a jQuery popup window containing an excerpt and the video. The article itself contains a wider version of the video and the article with social media and commenting functionality.
The website has multiple entries for data capture with a newsletter subscription which is hooked up to the popular Campaign Monitor software to deliver HTML emails to all those that are interested in a SPAM free manner with a high 'open-rate'.
Everything about this online publishing project has been built on the latest technologies available which are HTML5 and CSS3 - something we have specialised in for the past few years. With these foundations we can be certain that this website is future proof and able to keep up with the fast changing environment of the internet and website design & development.
Without the use of various plugins for WordPress, and an array of extra bespoke WordPress functionality design, the site would have not been possible with the 'off the shelf' product that WordPress is by default. There are literally millions of WordPress 'blogs' online, this one however is far from it, you will not find another quite like this.
