At Brave Creative, we don't just design websites to decorate, we design to communicate, and when we were asked to design The Big Fish Experience which would be aimed at helping disabled war veterans to go fishing in some of the most spectacular locations across the UK and Ireland we jumped up to the challenge. We've have created a unique and fully customised content management system using Google Maps API. There is currently no solution available to satisfy the requirement needed from both the front end to the back end (CMS) and we believe we have designed a website which delivers from a user perspective to an administration persepective.
Key Website Design aspects:
Legible Website Text
There are many key areas this website wins on, one of this is the ease at which you can read the text throughout the website. We've ensured you can also quickly increase the text size at a touch of a button and then making it easy to reset it back to the original size again. This feature is particularly vital to website users with disabilities, those of which that find it hard to read text easily.
Clean Website Layout
Website Design must conform to certain rules, one of which must be consistent navigation, proper balance, use of page space, and clear delivery of content wihin the site - especially the home page of a website which tends to be the most viewed page of them all.
W3C - WAI-AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
Websites bearing this logo show a claim of conformance to level Double-A of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. Conformance to these particular Guidelines will help make the Web in general more accessible to users with disabilities and will benefit all users. We fully support this and try and push this as much as we can.
Use the latest Website Design Technologies
To ensure the user experience both from the main website through to the CMS which control it is as fluid and intuitive as possible, we use the following Website Technologies:
- PHP + MySQL
- Google Maps API
- jQuery Library
Since its launch, the website has received a huge amount of traffic and to is now ranking page one for the term "fishing for disabled veterans" which shows how well the site's SEO attributes contribute to Search Engine Optimisation. A great idea and a worthy cause!
