Html Email Marketing can drive more sales than social media?

According to a study by an independent integrated communications agency, the older digital marketing disciplines like email marketing, search engine optimisation and pay per click (PPC) advertising are rated much more highly than newer, creative marketing efforts such as and include social media.
A study saw 100 marketers quized, and the ‘Digital Disciplines’ report found that 17% of those who responded said that social media was very effective at driving sales, which compared to 21% who had the same view about email marketing campaigns, DMA reported.
But, nearly two-thirds (63%) of participants claimed to use social media marketing for brand-building, and almost one-third (32%) said they used it for prospecting to new audiences. Facebook and LinkedIn were identified as the most widely-used social networks; with 61% of respondents indicating their organisation has a presence on one or both.
2011 will be either the year of mobile marketing, or if social media will become the biggest area for marketing investment, this remains to be seen.
